Ready to fly for British Airways? The Speedbird Pilot Academy is BA's fully-funded cadet scheme - 160 places in 2026, a 70-week integrated course, and a starting salary of GBP 37,081. This course prepares you for every stage of the 2026 selection, so nothing on assessment day is a surprise.
What the 2026 selection involves
- Prepare & Apply (pre-application): the Requirements, Commitment and Reality modules, with 100-word written answers that unlock your application code.
- Stage 1 - application & online tests: a BA-specific CV, then five timed tests - Situational Judgement, Maths, Checking, Listening Accuracy and the Pilot Communication activity - plus a verbal speaking task.
- Stage 2 - flight school & Waterside day: the cut-e / Aon aptitude battery, an in-person group exercise, the "Eagle" capacity test, and a 45-minute competency (STAR) interview.
- Stage 3 - British Airways assessment day: scenario and reflective interviews, a repeat aptitude test, and an individual decision-making task at Waterside, Heathrow.

2026 eligibility
- Age 17-58 at application, and 18 by 1 January 2027
- 6 GCSEs grade C/4 or above, including Maths, English Language and a Science
- Fluent English (IELTS 5.5 is only needed before training starts, not to apply)
- A valid passport for unrestricted worldwide travel
- Height 1.57m-1.90m (a functionality check applies outside this range)
- Able to obtain a UK CAA Class 1 medical and meet BA's medical criteria
- The right to live and work in the UK without sponsorship
Important: if you have already completed EASA or CAA ATPL exams, you are not eligible to apply - do not sit ATPL exams beforehand. Previous flying experience is not required.

Prerequisites:
- Minimum age of 17 to apply and 18 to start training.
- Academic qualifications, including 6 GCSEs grade A-C or 5-9, with Math, English, and Science, or equivalent.
- Proficiency in English, as well as certification for non-native speakers (IELTS Level 5.5 overall).
- Eligibility for unrestricted worldwide travel with a valid passport.
- Height within the range of 1.57m (5'2") to 1.90m (6'3").
- Meeting UK CAA Class 1 medical requirements and British Airways medical criteria.
- Successful completion of referencing and pre-employment checks.
