Latest official update: IGRUA has released the advertisement and opened the application process for the IGRUA Entrance Examination 2026 (Ab-initio to CPL and Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Courses). The last date for submitting online applications is 13th April 2026.

About IGRUA Established in 1985, the Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Akademi (IGRUA) is an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India. Training is conducted primarily at Raebareli (UP) with facilities in Amethi. IGRUA trains ab-initio pilots through ground theory, simulator training and flight training on a modern fleet.

IGRUA Exam Syllabus 2026

The exam format is a 90-minute online CBT with 100 multiple-choice questions (3 marks each, negative marking of -1). Consistent across years, it includes:

  • Physics (25 Qs): Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Optics, Electricity, Modern Physics.
  • Mathematics (25 Qs): Algebra, Trigonometry, Calculus, Geometry, Vectors.
  • English (20 Qs): Grammar, Vocab, Reading Comprehension, Synonyms.
  • Reasoning & Aptitude (20 Qs): Logic, Numeracy, Spatial Awareness.
  • General Awareness (10 Qs): Current Events, Basic Aviation.

Successful written test takers (top 200-300) advance to CPAT (aptitude assessment) and interviews evaluating drive, communication, and aviation enthusiasm.

Eligibility Criteria for IGRUA 2026

For the CPL program:

  • Age: At least 17 years by August 1, 2026 (born on or before August 1, 2009); no upper age cap, but medical fitness is key.
  • Education: 10+2 with Physics and Mathematics, minimum 50% aggregate (45% for SC/ST/OBC candidates).
  • Medical: DGCA Class 2 medical certificate required initially; Class 1 post-admission.
  • Nationality: Exclusive to Indian nationals.
  • Seats: About 120 for CPL, with reservations (15% SC, 7.5% ST, 27% OBC, 10% EWS).

No flying background necessary, but applicants must be unmarried and fully committed to the program.
